COVID-19 by Agencies April 14, 2020 1:42 pm The State Federation of Veterinary Unions (FESVET) has appealed by letter to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to demand the participation of "veterinary health thinking" in the management of the crisis caused by COVID-19, after accusing the Minister of Health , Salvador Illa, to turn a "deaf ear" to his repeated request. The FESVET claims to be "frankly concerned" about the "confusing measures" that are being carried out by the Government's health institutions to end COVID-19 and they "strongly" ask Sánchez to incorporate veterinary experts into the Government's Technical Scientific Committee in Covid-19, as well as in the "progressive deconfinement group" that is finally created for a de-escalation that allows the pulse of the country to be recovered as soon as possible. In this context, they denounce that the Government is "undervaluing the contributions" that the veterinary profession could have made to advise the Ministry of Health since the beginning of the conflict.

This reason, in their letter they express to Sánchez their surprise that none of the requirements presented in writing and through the media have been attended to. "We have been surprised that the Government does not count on Veterinarians at all in the management of this encyclopedic health crisis," they added. In their reflection, they insist that veterinarians participate in the resolution of the crisis and the de-escalation of other countries with better results in the infection rate and deaths per inhabitant, such as in the Faroe Islands, Almenai or China. Even in Spain they do not know if to exclude veterinarians "corporate or political conditions will have been weighed", but the reality is that in some autonomous communities, such as Andalusia, Castilla y León or Galicia, they already have veterinarians or are going to incorporate them into their groups of experts, which they see as a sign that the "experience and knowledge" of the profession are "crucial in all the reports and pronouncements" that are being carried out.
